soooo... we’re back from norwich, and - guess what? we only got 325ish pounds, but the bridge didn’t really break. The arches are still perfect, the bed is still almost perfect, the floss is flawless, but one tiny support broke... and another pointless piece of wood came off (the left loose piece in the picture). We could have been a tiny bit smarter and gotten a lot more weight. But, all in all, with a 2.9 pound bridge holding well over 100x its own weight, we didn’t do too bad at all! |

Although the original church no longer stands (it was built in 1659 and burned by the British in 1777), the old Dutch Church in Kingston may be of interest to you. The current church was built in 1852. The cemetery on the grounds dates back to the mid 1600’s, and it’s possible you have ancestors buried there. Based on church records, you definitely had ancestors who were married or baptized in the original church. |

Aunt M’s Mac mini freaked out and displayed this charming little symbol. The recommended fix was to boot off the install disk (I think). I put in the wrong disc and could not eject it because there is no external eject mechanism, and of course it wouldn’t boot up to where the keyboard or eject icon could be used. I eventually found a post from somone who had the same issue, they pointed me to a document for resetting the PMU/PRAM. Whew! What a pain in the neck, but we finally got it fixed! |

That hydrant reminded me, long ago I took a photography course at BOCES, B and W, film of course. Each week we had to pick a subject and take a full roll (36) pictures. I did a fire hydrant. The instructor said he had never heard of that before. And now you take seventy shots of a drop of water in an instant. None of my hydrant were very spectacular either. |

well... after installing 2 new hard drives (and getting RAID-1 running, which was incredibly painless on OS X - and means that I’ll have basically four copies of my data at all times at college - hopefully no term paper mishaps/horror stories like I hear so much from ex-college students) and installing more or less every removable component in a new computer for Alex, dad’s poor screwdriver has had lots of work to do these two days! |

This used to be a different sculpture when I went here. It was two VERY large rectangles (like 2001 monoliths) that were also shiny stainless steel. They floated around in the wind in a similar way as these do...

This beautiful building was slated to be torn down back in ’75 or so, to be replaced by a new computer center building. The students rallied and protested so vigorously to not have it destroyed that the powers-that-be were forced to reconsider and decided to integrate the mainframe into the present building. I think they made the right choice! |

we’ve quite much solidified ourselves as terrible people. nick, annoying-creepy-I-lost-my-roommate-so-I-bug-you-guys-and-won’t-leave-at-4-am-nick, wrote a long facebook rant about vista and how awesome it was. so mike dictated a love letter to nick from a secret admirer/windows-lover, which DJ then proceeded to make incredibly overly girly, in a very awe-inspiring fashion. yep. he came up and accused us, but I’m pretty sure we convinced him it wasn’t us, because we would never write nice things about vista, and such....
yeah.
I feel bad for him, but I also feel that he might someday get the message that he CANNOT act the way he does and expect to have/maintain any friends. Ah, at least we talk to him, unlike the other 6,000 kids here. |
